In 2019, December 18, the Supreme Court had decided to examine the validity of the Citizenship Amendment Act,2019, which spoke of granting Indian citizenship to non muslim minorities who migrated to India from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh till 31st December, 2014. The Supreme Court did not put a stay on CAA implementation.

The constitutional validity of Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, has been challenged by more petitions which has been taken up by the Supreme Court, today.

The three judge bench consists of : Chief Justice of India, Justice SA Bobde, and Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Just AS Bopanna.

These petitions which were filed earlier could not be heard due to the pandemic.
In the hearing today, An interim order was sought , due to the conflict between CAA and the Assam Accords. No interim order was passed by the Court, but notice was issued in the pleas.
