Madras HC has decided to reopen on June 1st, the judges would attend court but hearing would be held through videoconferencing. There will be a bar on lawyers to enter the court premises both for filing and arguing cases will continue.
An internal circular has been sent and it says that the staggered functioning of the Court, with all the 33 benches would commence. As of now, the urgent matters were heard via videoconferencing. Issues regarding the safety of judges and following the rules of social distancing are among the concerns raised.
The decision comes days after Justice D.Y.Chandrachud inaugurated the virtual courts. As per reports, “computer committee headed by Justice T S Sivagnanam of the Madras high court has put together a virtual court system, which will facilitate the videoconferencing proceedings from June 1 onwards.”
