Seeking flight safety announcement in local language: Madras HC

A bench comprising of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice P D Audikesavalu directed the Civil Aviation ministry to decide matter on representation to be made by the petitioner.

The Madras High Court disposed of a PIL seeking direction issued by Centre to ensure that cabin crew of Indian Airlines to make announcement pertaining to ‘flight safety instructions’ in local language of the departure city and the destination city without using English and Hindi.

The Bench held that as many people do not understand the instructions and thus take steps to ensure their own safety.

The counsel for the petitioner apprised that a recorded voice in various local languages and to ensure instructions card to be made in printed in various local language.

The Court asked the ministry to consider appropriate action regarding the airline operators and civil Aviation ministry within 4 weeks and to secretary of the civil Aviation ministry was directed to reply within 8 weeks.

The matter was disposed of.
