Safeguard from arrest to the accused in the rape case of Olympian Mayookha Johny’s friend

On Thursday, the Apex Court has granted safeguard to the man accused of rape from being arrested. The accused named C.C Johnson is accused of raping and capturing nude pictures of Olympian Mayookha Johny’s friend.

The Kerala High Court dismissed the anticipatory bail plea filed by Johnson. The Advocate on behalf of the victim argued that the alleged accusation was not against an ordinary person but a Minister of Emperor Emanuel Church and further explained the reasonings behind the delay in filing an FIR.

The Advocate appearing for the accused contended that the date of incidence and the date of the FIR lodged have a difference of 5 years. He further submitted that Johnson is a victim of the two factions of the Church and it was only after the press conference of Olympian Mayookha Johny that the allegations have now freshly surfaced.

The Bench comprising of Justices Ajay Rastogi and AS Oka have directed for it to be placed on record before the next date as to whether the accused has handed over all the abusive messages and materials to the victim and the investigation agency and further as to why custodial interrogation is required in the matter.

The Court has granted protection from arrest and for the Government’s pleader to be present on September 30th 2021.
