‘No sympathy for backdoor students’: SC dismisses plea of MBBS students admitted through private counseling

The Supreme Court, in rejecting any review petitions filed by medical students, stated that no sympathy can be extended to students accepted through the backdoor.

Medical admissions obtained through private consultations are illegal, according to Justices L. Nageswara Rao, BR Gavai, and Krishna Murari.

Some medical students have filed a petition with the Supreme Court, challenging Gradle Medical College’s discharge order from the Medical Council of India, which ordered the college to discharge the 67 students it had admitted.

The MCI and the State of Uttar Pradesh, in response to his petition, claimed that he was accepted through a backdoor and that his admission was the product of a merger between Glocal Medical College and them.

He stated that he got admitted through Glocal Medical College’s counseling process and that he passed both the first and second-year tests. It is stated that the state of Uttar Pradesh has issued a notification mandating centralized counseling.

Despite the fact that minority institutions were allowed to admit students from their community based on NEET 2016, centralised counseling administered by the state stated that this was to be done without deviating from the merit of the students’ heads, according to the court.
