The notifications were issued by the Teachers Recruitment Board in 2018 for the recruitment of Assistant Professor(pre-law) in government colleges in Tamilnadu or the year 2018-2019.

The notified the eligibility for teaching pre-law courses are LLM degree not less than 55℅ and had to enroll as an advocate in bar council.

The issue was raised and challenged in the Madras HC that the notification mandates the candidates to enroll as an advocate and hold an LLM degree for the post of teaching pre-law courses in govt law colleges.

The batch of petitions by the petitioners contended that these are the none essential qualifications for this post.

The Madras HC also said that no need for an LLM degree and enroll as an advocate for lecturing pre-law courses and the court also announced that it was irrational and illegal.

They also clarified the appointments made in 2014 and 2018 notification would not be affected by the ruling
