The candidates filed a petition before Kerala Administrative Tribunal which the Kerala public service commission refused to accept the applications for those who do not have B. Ed in Natural Science.
Due to pendency in the tribunal, the Kerala government announced that B.Ed in ‘Biological Science’ degree is equivalent to a B.Ed in ‘Natural science’.
A bench of Kerala High court set aside the order of the Kerala Administrative tribunal. So the candidates approached the Supreme Court by challenging the high court verdict.
In Kerala, there is no provision in Kerala Education Rules which making B.Ed in a specified subject the qualifying criteria.
So the SC held that a B.Ed degree in biological science is qualified to apply for the post of High school Assistant(Natural Science).
The candidates are eligible to apply to government schools in Kerala.
At last, the Supreme Court set aside the judgment of the Kerala High court and restore the tribunals order.
