The Mega Lok Adalat held by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, which is on the verge of celebrating its silver jubilee, settled the highest number of cases in a single day in the country. A total of 3,88,981 cases were settled, across 943 benches in Karnataka.
The cases were settled awarding a total compensation of Rs 907.65 crore and collecting penalties of Rs 25.75 crore at the Adalat.
The Mega Lok Adalat was initiated by former Karnataka High Court judge, Justice AJ Sadashiva, who was also the first Executive Chairman of the KSLSA.
The press note stated, “In one of the special cases at family court of Mysuru, a couple who had already annulled their marriage by a decree of court in a proceeding for maintenance, under the advice of Lok Adalat conciliator agreed to remarry in the presence of Principal District Judge, Mysuru”.
79,207 pre-litigation cases, a total of 33,251 cases were disposed of and out of 5,32,326 pending cases 3,55,730 were disposed of and accordingly, a total of 9,815 matrimonial cases were taken up and 1,166 were settled. 74 couples were reunited as a result of the conciliation proceedings.
Chief Justice Abhay Oka of the Karnataka High Court who is also the patron-in-chief of KSLSA, Justice Aravind Kumar, the Executive Chairman, KSLSA, and Justice Alok Aradhe, Chairman of High Court Legal Services Committee, appreciated the efforts put in by all stakeholders for the success of the Lok Adalat.
