The Supreme Court gave notice to the Central govt on Monday in response to complaints against compelling individuals to acquire COVID-19 vaccines as a condition of receiving vital services.
Dr. Jacob Puliyel’s petition also demanded the release of a clinical study and post-vaccination data.
A bench led by Justice L Nageswara Rao demanded the Health Ministry’s statement but declined to give any interim orders.
The Court further stated that considering the appeal cannot be seen as a statement that the Court does not believe COVID vaccinations are effective.
The vaccinations now being provided were not thoroughly studied for effectiveness and safety, according to the appeal, and are now licenced under an Emergency Use Authorisation even without details being made public.
