Andhra – Telengana water dispute, CJI Ramana refuses to hear the matter

Monday 2nd August 2021, CJI N.V Ramana refused to hear the matter relating to water dispute between State of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The matter came up before this Court through a Writ petition filed by the state of Andhra Pradesh regarding a dispute of sharing Krishna river water taken illegally by the Telangana state for power supply violating the rules of the integrated

Operation of the reservoirs and the agreement of 2015.

CJI stated that the matter should be referred to Mediation and not legally.

Additionally stating it would be unjust to hear this matter amicably as he belongs from both the states in disputes.

If the matter is not solved CJI shall transfer the case to another bench for decision.

Representative of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave and Senior Advocate CS Vaidyanathan respectively.

Accordingly the matter is to be taken up again on Wednesday.
