EXTRA CHANCE FOR UPSC ASPIRANTS – A LENIENT VIEW WAS TAKEN ONLY BY THE AUTHORITIES

The petitioners had approached the Supreme Court for an extra attempt and this difficulty was caused by the Covid situation.

The supreme court refused to pass directions to the UPSC and the Central government for those civil services aspirants for an extra chance who had been exhausted in their last attempt in October 2020 exam and became age barred after 2020.

The bench gave liberty to the candidates to submit representations before concerned authorities for an extra attempt.

They also urged the authorities to take a lenient view on the plea for an extra chance due to the pandemic situation.

The court also pointed out that a similar plea which has been done in February 2021 which was rejected in the case of Rachna Vs UPSC.

The bench said that liberty was given to petitioners and applicants to make representation to the authority who may take a lenient view.

The petitioners seeking a review of the Rachna judgment. The bench expressed that, ‘Either we grant relief to everybody or we don’t grant it all’ Otherwise, it will lead to huge chaos.
