Supreme Court Bar Association urges to resume physical hearing in Supreme Court

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has written to Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana to consider resuming the physical functioning of Supreme Court in view of reduction in COVID-19 cases.

SCBA mentioned that how it has undertaken vaccination program for lawyers aged below 45 and while lawyers above 45 years have already been getting vaccinated since March, 2020 in the letter to CJI.

Further it was suggested by SCBA that on miscellaneous days there should be six slots of 45 minutes each. Each slot conducting ten matters and in this way sixty matters can be decided in a physical hearing.

On non miscellaneous days such as Tuesdays and Thursdays, two slots of 45 minutes each should be assigned.

Moreover, to avoid overcrowding the media should be allowed to virtually attend the meeting.

It was also requested to CJI that lawyers should get permission to access libraries and lounges in the high security zone of the Supreme Court.
