NCW takes suo motu cognizance of pornographic material on Twitter

On wednesday, the National Commission for Women (NCW)  took suo motu cognisance of several profiles on Twitter sharing pornographic content.

The Chairperson of NCW issued notice to the Managing Director of Twitter India, asking him to ensure that all such pornographic content should be removed within a week.

Further it was noted that Twitter failed to take action with respect to earlier complaints lodged in this matter.

This was brought up to the notice of Commissioner of Police, Delhi so that matter can be investigated appropriate legal action can be taken against it.

Moreover, NCW was distributed from the fact that these content are on the platform in violation of India’s laws and Twitter’s own policy yet no initiative had been taken to take it down.

The NCW issued notice after the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) filed an FIR with the Delhi Police against Twitter for allegedly permitting the material displaying child pornography on the platform.
