On Tuesday, the President appointed the Mr. Anup Chandra Pandey to the Election Commission as there was a vacancy in the Election Commission.
On Wednesday, Retired IAS officer, Anup Chandra Pandey on took charge as one of the Election Commissioners of India.
Mr. Anup Chandra Pandey is a 1984 batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre. He retired as Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh in 2019.
He had also served in the Defence and Labour and Employment Ministries.
Mr. Pandey also has a keen interest in writing and has authored a book titled “Governance in Ancient India”. It explores the evolution, nature, scope, functions and all related aspects of ancient Indian Civil Service from the Rig Veda period to 650 AD.
He will be accompanying the Chief Election Commissioner, Sushil Chandra and Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar to complete the three-member commission.
A statement released by the Election Commission of India stated that Mr. Pandey’s
administrative leadership the as Chief Secretary, helped in the success of the Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj and Paravasi Bhartiya at Varnasi Diwas in 2019.
