Hundreds of farmers, led by Rakesh Tikait, Gurnam Singh Chaduni, and Samukta Kisan Morcha leader Yogendra Yadav, set up a sit-in at Fatehabad’s Sadar police station on Saturday night, demanding the release of fellow farmers.
They had also requested that a case be filed against local JJP MLA Devender Babli for allegedly throwing insults at them. Babli later apologised for his “inappropriate” remarks about farmers.
Earlier, in addressing the crowd at the grain market, farmer leader Tikait stated that their protest against farm laws would continue until the government repealed these laws and enacted one based on MSP. He claimed that the government would be forced to repeal the three farm laws.
Yogendra Yadav, the leader of the SKM, also slammed the Central government. “In just one year, farmers have shown them that they understand everything and that they (the Centre) cannot fool farmers. The government may take its time, but these laws will be revoked,” Yadav stated.
