T.M. Kalliannan Gounder, the last surviving former member of the Indian Constituent Assembly, died at the age of 101 at Thiruchengode in western Tamil Nadu on Friday.He was the vice president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) when Thiru K. Kamaraj was president.

The death of Kaliannan was a huge loss for Tamil Nadu and the nation, the Chief Minister said. While he was a college student, he involved himself in the freedom struggle and as a follower of Mahatma Gandhi, he was an embodiment of simplicity, Stalin said.
He had been a Member of Parliament, Legislative Assembly and Council as well and he dedicated his life for the service of the people, he added.
