Interim bail granted to 4 Trinamool Leaders in Narada Case

The Calcutta High Court on Friday granted interim bail to four Trinamool Congress leaders who had been in judicial custody since their arrest in the Narada case by the CBI.

A 5-judge bench comprising of Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal, Justices IP Mukerji, Harish Tandon, Soumen Sen and Arijit Mukherjee gave the order after considering the application filed for recall of the May 17th order passed by the division bench, which stayed the bail granted to them.

The grant of interim-bail was opposed by the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing on behalf of CBI contending that the had an influential reach over the pending trial which also has a potential to cause unrest. To which Justice Mukherjee enquired the Solicitor General as to why the leader should be kept under house-arrest while they should be working towards public service in current situations.

The advocates appearing on the behalf of the accused have raised a preliminary objection towards the maintainability of the petition filed by CBI and seek transfer from the trial court and declaration that the bail hearing was debased due to mob pressure.

Hearing of the main matter would be continued on 31st of May.
