Uttarakhand High Court expressed its displeasure at the failure of the State government to handle covid

The Uttarakhand High Court on Thursday disagreed with the government’s policy regarding the organization of Kumbh Mela and Chaar Dhaam in the state.

A Bench of Chief Justice RS Chauhan and Justice Alok Verma said that, “”First we make the mistake of Kumbh Mela, then there is Char Dham. Why do we repeatedly cause embarrassment to ourselves?. “

The remarks came after the Court came across videos on social media showing a large number of priests moving around in pilgrimage centres, Badrinath and Kedarnath in violation of social distancing norms.

An official from the state tourism department informed that Court that everywhere they have marked earmarks to maintain social distancing.

To which the Court replied “Nobody is following your earmarks. Please take a chopper to Char dham, you will find what the reality is. Please take next chopper to Char Dham, go to Kedarnath … ” the Chief Justice responded.

The Court asked the state government to ask questions from the violators and pointed out the accountability of the government towards the people. The matter will be taken up next on June 9.
