SC DIRECTS DELHI, UP, HARYANA GOVTS TO PROVIDE DRY RATION & OPEN COMMUNITY KITCHEN FOR MIGRANT WORKERS IN NCR!!!

A bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and MR Shah was hearing anything application that had been filed by activists in the system suo moto case. In Re: Problems and Miseries of Migrant labourers.

Issues: Due to Lockdowns in many states in wake of second wave of Covid -19 pandemic migrant workers faced many problems.

So here the Supreme Court directed Central government and Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, States of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to provide dry ration to migrant workers in National Capital Region.

THE INTERIN DIRECTIONS WERE GIVEN BY THE COURT :

1) Under Atma Nirbhar Bharat Scheme to provide dry ration to migrant workers in NCR to the states of UP, Haryana, Union if India and NCT of Delhi.

2) To provide adequate transport facilities to stranded migrant labourers in the NCR who want to return to their homes by the states of UP, Haryana and NCT of Delhi ( for the districts included in NCR)

3) To open community kitchen at well – advertised places for migrant labourers so that they and their family members could get two meals a day in the state of UP, Haryana and Delhi.

Apart from the interim directions, the court directed to file a reply to the application, whether any measures to alleviate the miseries of migrant workers.

Notice has also been issues on the application to states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Bihar to file their reply.

In today’s hearing, the Supreme Court had expressed it’s concerns about food security and cheaper transport options.
