The Superintendent of Central Jail-6 of Tihar Jail was directed by the Delhi High Court to request for issuance of vaccines for the inmates between 18-44 age group and further directed the Ministry of Home affairs (MHA) to supply the doses within 30 days.
The bench headed by Justice Prathiba M. Singh issued these directions after it was brought to the court’s notice by the authorities that the jail has not received vaccines for a total of 279 inmates.
The prison authority further stated that they have only received vaccines for 136 inmates in the 45 plus age group but out of those only 12 have been vaccinated as yet.
The Court ordered the authorities to use prison ID number instead of Adhar Card or Pan Card for the registration.
The court was assured by the prison authorities that all the mentioned prisoners would be vaccinated by May 31.
