The Election Commission appealed to the Madras High Court, requesting that the media refrain from reporting on the oral observations.
The EC’s request comes only days after a judge suggested that authorities could face murder charges if the Covid-19 procedure was not followed during campaign rallies.
In its application, the EC expressed dissatisfaction with media stories of the Madras High Court’s oral remarks that the election authority is solely responsible for the recent Covid-19 circumstance and also that the EC should bear murder charges.
These results, according to the EC, have resulted in the deterioration of the image of the Election Commission of India as an autonomous body tasked with the constitutional duty of holding elections.
The Election Commission also stated that no one should be allowed to report on either the trials of this Court that are not supported by the documentation, notably when the Court’s comprehensive order is accessible.
