Justice NV Ramana sworn in as 48th Chief Justice of India

President of India, Ram Nath Kovind administered oath of office to justice Ramana to be appointed as the 4th Chief Justice of India. Oath was administered at a ceremony organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Justice SA Bobde retired from his office on Friday and now justice Ramana took over the charge from him as the CJI.

Justice Ramana is the first Judge from Andhra Pradesh High Court who is being elected as the Chief Justice of India.

He will remain in office for a period of 1 year and 4 months and will retire on August 26, 2022.

He belonged to agriculturist parents in Poonavaram village of situated in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. He was born on August 27, 1957.

He worked as a journalist for a leading Telugu newspaper and was also known as activists as a student for the right of the industrial workers and farmers. He was enrolled as a lawyer in the year 1983 before Andhra Pradesh High Court.
