On Wednesday, a Delhi court excluded union finance minister Chidambaram and his son Karti from testifying in court in a money laundering case involving the INX Media contract.
M.K. Nagpal, a special CBI judge, excluded the Chidambarams, citing the fact that the state of Tamil Nadu held polls yesterday, and both of them have been prominent campaigners there.
“As of yesterday, polling in Tamil Nadu was completed. As sitting members of Parliament, both A-1 (P Chidambaram) and A-7 (Karti) were preoccupied with the process and were unable to court hearing,” the Judge explained.
After taking notice of the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) charge sheet, the Court gave notice to all defendants in the INX Media money laundering case. The Court set a date for document inspection on April 16 while directing the distribution of copies of the charge sheet to all accused.
During the hearing, Counsel for S. Bhaskaraman filed an exemption application based on medical grounds, which was also granted by the Court, considering the existing danger of Covid-19.
