The Bench of the Supreme Court with Chief Justice of India SA Bobde refused to hear the case concerning deportation of Rohingya Refugees.
“We will not hear you. Govt has reservations. We will hear you later, your moment is over. There is serious objection. We will see when to hear you,” the Court replied.
Senior Counsel Harish Salve stated:
“Please don’t go into this.UN is not subject to your jurisdiction of the municipal Court. Our govt has issues with UN Special Rapporteur.”
In the plea filed by Mohammad Salimullah that was brought before the court, it was stated that Rohingyas comes under the purview of Human Rights Law and India should provide protection to every individual .The plea stated protection for over 150 Rohingya Refugees in Jammu and Kashmir. The plea sought to grant the status of refugee through Foreigners Regional Registration Office.
The Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta, contended against this plea stating:They are not refugees at all. This is the second round of litigation. This petitioner had filed an application (before) and it was dismissed. They are illegally immigrants. We are always in touch with Myanmar and if they confirm so then they can be deported.”
The Court reserved its order.
