Competition Commission of India issues directions for proper investigation of WhatsApp’s updated Privacy Policy

The CCI has issued directions to begin with a detailed probe into the WhatsApp’s updated Privacy Policy and its term of Sevice. It has been alleged that the new policy violates the provisions of Competition law. Competition Commission has given the time of 60 days to complete the process of Investigation.

CCI while issuing orders of probe, stated that without a detailed investigation it is not possible to hold that the new policy is in violation of Competition law.

The scope and impact of data sharing through involuntary consent of users needs to be checked before framing charges.

Moreover, WhatsApp has released an official statement reiterating that the application interface is committed in protecting the rights of its users and that the application will be more than happy to co-operate in the probe.
