Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and actor Alia Bhatt have been summoned by the court of additional chief metropolitan magistrate in Mumbai in connection with a criminal defamation case filed by Babu Rawji Shah.
Sanjay and Alia will have to present themselves before the Mumbai court on May 21.

Bollywood movie Gangubai Kathiawadi landed in legal trouble when Gangu bai Kathiawadi’s son Babuji Rawji Shah filed a criminal defamation case against the actress Alia Bhatt, filmmaker Sanjay leela Bhansali, writer Hussain Zaidi, reporter Jane Borges and Bhansali Productions.
The film is based on the book The Mafia Queens of Mumbai, written by Hussain Zaidi with original research by Borges. Babuji Shah found the second part of the book defamatory and infringment on their privacy, liberty and self respect.
Gangubai Kathiawadi is scheduled to release in theatres on July 30.
