Actress Kangana Ranaut moves to Karnataka HC, for quashing of FIR on her tweets against farm protests

Actress Kangana Ranaut went to the Karnataka High Court asking to quash a First Information Report which was filed against her for her controversial tweets and remarks on public platform on farmers protesting and opposing the farm laws. In October month last year, a Judicial Magistrate at Tumkur instructed the jurisdictional Police Station (Kyathasandra) to register FIR against her.

The Petition which was filed by Advocate Ramesh Naik L., under Section 156(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure alleges that the actress has posted a message from her Official Twitter account handle ‘@Kangana Team’ on September 21, 2020 with an intention to harm and injure the reputation and sanctity of ongoing peaceful farmer protests. The Petition stated that the above content posted by the accused in her twitter account.

It is also being alleged that neither any of the Police officials nor the government had initiated any action to curb/check these activities suo-moto and failed to register any case against the above named accused which indicates a huge lacuna in the administration of peace and justice in the country.

The complainant, therefore, seeks registration of FIR for the offences under Sections 153A, 504, 108 of the IPC.
