Five dead at Sivakasi firecracker factory

Several people are injured and till now 5 have been discovered as dead in a factory in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu. The blast took place at the Kalaiyarkurichi firecrackers factory, leaving several workers badly injured.

Efforts are laid down by the Firefighters who reached the spot soon after the blast and are now attempting to ensure no further chemical blasts are triggered by the flames. They are also helping on to remove the debris and look for survivors.

This was a consecutive 2nd blast after a massive blast in Sattur. In that incident 23 people were killed in an explosion ripped through a fireworks factory. The explosion occurred when some chemicals were being mixed to produce fireworks at the unit in Acchankulam village.

PM Modi and Tamil Nadu CM E Palaniswami had announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 3 lakh each to the kin of the deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund and the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund respectively.
