Background
Last week, a Full Bench comprising Justices Manoj Kumar Gupta, Siddhartha Varma, and Ajit Kumar had directed the respective authorities to file their response statements by January 28, 2021.

- The water of river Ganga is not suitable for drinking purposes but is fit for bathing.
2.Amicus Curiae AK Gupta conveyed to the Bench that lots of untreated water of various drains are being directly flown in both Yamuna and Ganga rivers and as a result, the color of the water has completely changed despite several actions by the Court.
SUBMISSION OF DISTRICT MAGISTRATE
1.All sewage treatment plants are working and all discharge parameters are within the range mentioned by the Central Government.
DIRECTION OF THE COURT
- Liberty has been granted to the Petitioner to bring on record evidence to prove that STPs are working and whether untreated water as alleged by the people is actually being discharged into the rivers Ganga and Yamuna directly.
- The Central Government shall also bring into notice the project, if any, undertaken by the Ganga Basin Authority to preserve the environmental flow of the two rivers and flora and fauna in Ganga Basin.
