The Delhi High Court issued a notice to many social media houses for the alleged disclosure of victim’s identity in Hathras gang rape case.
The bench consisted of Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh. This notice was issued by the bench while hearing a PIL.
The PIL was filed by Advocate Manan Narula through Advocates Suman Chauhan and Jivesh Tiwari. There is a gross violation by media houses under Section 228A of Indian Penal Code through their publications.After the victim died in hospital, information about the victim was spread over all media centers.
Twitter had disclosed the victim’s identity and it was made public. The unfortunate situation was published with the identity of the people through social media. The right to privacy of the victim was violated and no action was taken against them. The plea seeks to take down the published information about the victim.
Also, the Delhi High court ordered to organize camps and lectures for spreading social awareness about the legal provisions.
