The karnataka governor approved “Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Ordinance, 2020”. It seek to prohibit slaughter all cattles except buffaloes who aged above 13. Many states have laws against the cow butcher but all of them has exemt the buffalo from the prohibtition.
Karnataka govt. has widened the scope of prohibition by including buffaloes aged below 13 years.The ordinance further forbid transportation of cattles within or outside the state for the butchering. A police officer above the rank of sub-inspector, if according to him, under this act offence has been committed, he can conduct a search or can ispect any premises for that purpose.
The offence under this act is Cognizable Offence and this includes punishment with imprisonment for 3-5 years and fine varying from 50000 to 5 lakhs. The ordinance has also repealed the karnatka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act 1964.
