A public Interest litigation has been filed in Delhi High Court alleging that the google pay has committed an unauthorized act. The system behind google pay does not give authorization to store or access the Aadhaar data of an individual. But the PIL filed against google pay alleges that the system uses and stores Aadhaar card data without authorization.
The PIL seeks directions from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to take immediate action for this unauthorized act as it is against the norms. It also seeks the Reserve Bank of India to prevent the Google pay from having such access. In the last hearing, the bench had directed Abhijit Mishra, the petitioner to file all information and all the PILs and status of those PILs.
The petitioner contented that neither the google pay has been registered under Payments and Settlement System Act 2007 nor they are registered as any finance body under Banking Regulation Act. The petition seeks action under Section 23A, 28, 29, 38 and 43 of the Aadhaar Act 2016 against Google pay.
