A two-judge bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and Nataraj Rangaswamy heard a petition seeking directions to the government to provide resources free of cost for attending online classes to the economically weaker sections of the society.
In response, the state government informed of the plan to restart the Vidyagama Programme in January, 2021 for classes 1 to 10. Under the scheme, batches of 10 to 15 children would gather at spacious places located in the vicinity of their houses with precautionary measures.
Some of the directions passed by the court in earlier hearings include ensuring the continuation of admission process in Anganwadis to 1st standard, readmission in higher classes and the state government to appeal to private players for financial assistance/electronic devices through the mechanism of Corporate Social Responsibility.
The court has also directed the state to consider opening schools in a phased manner for every taluk instead of adopting a uniform policy. The matter has been adjourned to January 18.
