SC issues notices to Centre and state on a petition filed by Twitter

A petition was filed by Twitter Communications to quash multiple FIRs registered against it for promoting a tweet on ‘Khalistan’.

The Supreme Court in this context, has sought responses from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, governments of Karnataka, Assam, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and the Police Commissioner of Delhi.

Supreme court has also issued notices to complainants, who filed FIR against the social media company. Twitter in its plea has pleaded that one Vinit Goenka and his supporters had organised webinars against declaring the company as terrorist organization and to charge it’s with sedition. Multiple FIRs have been filed against Twitter in eight states for promoting Gurpatwant Singh Pannum tweet’s on ‘Khalistan’.

Twitter has further sought clubbing of FIR.
