Permission to cut trees on Dumna Road should be re-examined, says Madhya Pradesh HC

Background

Environmentalist Nikita Khamparia, a resident of Ganganagar Colony, Jabalpur, filed a PIL stating that the four-lane road from Rani Durgavati University to Dumna Airport is being constructed. Trees are being cut for road construction. The PIL said that more than 300 trees have been cut so far.

Arguments of the Petitioner

  1. the trees are being harvested with permission from the Municipal Corporation, while Dumna area falls under City Forest.

2.Permission should be obtained from the Central Government under Section 2 of the Forest Protection Act to cut trees in this area.
