The UP government goes to Supreme Court in the Kafeel Khan case. Kafeel Khan, a doctor from Uttar Pradesh are taken into detention for his speech. The High Court said that the detention was illegal and the speech of the doctor did not promote hate or violence.
The UP government has filed a petition against the order of Allahabad High Court that freed the doctor. He was detained and charged under the National Security Act. The speech was against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. He delivered the speech in the Aligarh Muslim University.
UP government’s contention was that the history of the doctor shows that he has committed several offence which had resulted in disciplinary action and suspensions. Also, police cases have been framed against him. He was charged for promoting enmity between different groups and religions. After his release, he also submitted that he should get the job in the state medical services.
