The Supreme Court has changed the death penalty into life imprisonment given to a man in Maharashtra who raped and killed a 2-year old baby in 2013.
A three-judge Bench of Supreme court consisting of Justices UU Lalit, Indu Malhotra, and Krishna Murari has changed the punishment given by the Bombay High Court to Meshram, who has taken away the 2-year old baby from his grandparent’s custody and then raped and killed the child.
While doing so, the Bench changed the punishment of the death penalty for the offense of murder into the punishment of life imprisonment, and for the offense of rape to rigorous imprisonment for 25 years.
