BJP leader and advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay has filed plea in Supreme Court to remove party symbols from the ballot, EVM. They also sought directions to declare it as unconstitutional and illegal. The plea seeks directions to Election Commission of India to insert the ‘Name, Age, Educational Qualification and Photograph’ on EVM. This is to provide equal opportunity to the candidates. It will weed out all the seven menaces of democracy.
It was submitted that free and fair election and right to vote is the basic dictum of democracy. But this loses its essence due to the ballot paper and EVM. The voters get confused and result in wrong casting. The plea seeks that EVM as illegal and unconstitutional under Article 14, 15, and 21 of the Indian Constitution.
