Decision on TN Bill for Reservations in Medical Colleges for Govt school students should be taken at the earliest: Madras High Court

The Madras High Court on Wednesday observed that a decision should be taken at the earliest on the Bill unanimously passed last month in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly for reserving 7.5% of UG medical seats for Government school students who clear the NEET.

The Bill i.e. the “Tamil Nadu Admission to Under Graduate Courses in Medicine, Dentistry, Indian Medicine and Homeopathy on preferential basis to the students of the Government Schools Bill, 2020” had been passed on September 15, this year.

Futher, the Bill was also sent for receiving the Governor’s assent on the very same day, the Bench of Justices N Kirubakaran and B Pugalendhi was informed. However, “it is pending for the past one month without any decision”, the Court observed.

The Court on Wednesday asked the Advocate General to get instructions on the matter. The case has been listed to be taken up next on October 16, Friday.
