PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti who was the former Chief Minister of State of Jammu and Kashmir has been released on Tuesday night from the detention centre.
The PDP leader was in detention since August 5th 2019, the day when the special status to the State of Jammu and Kashmir has been revoked by the central government. Her detention was then done under Jammu and Kashmir public safety Act and further it has been extended from time to time.
Other prominent leaders of State of Jammu and Kashmir like Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah had also been released in March. The centre was of the firm of opinion that to maintain the the peace and tranquility in the State of Jammu and Kashmir, detention of these leaders is must.
The writ petition of Habeas Corpus filed on behalf of Mehbooba Mufti is already pending in Supreme Court seeking release of her.
