Plea in Supreme Court seeks directive to media not to demonise entire muslim community for covid spread

A petition has come to the Supreme Court – filed by Jamiat ulema I Hind against the Union of India – asking it to direct the govt and therefore the media to not blame the complete Muslim community for the unfold of COVID-19, due to one religious congregation, by the Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz.

The top court bench of CJI S. A. Bobde and other judges has directed SG Tushar Mehta to submit a list of acts on that the govt has used its powers.

Regarding the reply, CJI Bobde raised an objection when a junior officer filed it. That reply had mentioned that no incident had taken place on Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind complaining of the Centre not taking any step to prevent impelled TV broadcasts targeting the Muslim Community throughout the COVID pandemic after Tablighi Congregation at Delhi. The SG has agreed to file a new affidavit.

The matter will be listed after two weeks.
