An international congregation was initiated by Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin in March which had become a medium for spreading of the raging coronavirus disease (Covid-19). This led to the initiation of criminal prosecution against the members of Tablighi Jamaat, which included many foreigners. This violated the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown guidelines and social distancing.
The Allahabad High Court has ordered the transfer of cases of various district courts of Uttar Pradesh against the members of Tablighi Jamaat to the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Lucknow, Meerut and Bareilly. This order was made by following the direction of the recent Supreme Court judgment. They have also ordered the cases to be disposed within the stipulated time limit of 8 weeks. The court also ordered the transfer of the criminal cases to CJM court within 2 weeks. It was also permitted that the cases can be heard in video conferencing. The final report of the trial had to be presented before Chief Justice within the period of 3 months by the registrar-general of Allahabad HC. Also the copies of the order had to be sent to the Chief Secretary, District Judge and District Magistrate. The court has also ordered the states to hear the case according to the specific zones instead of districts.
