The Orissa high court has started suo motu proceedings on unfinished cases against former and sitting MPs and MLAs and their efficient disposal, in wake of the recent Supreme Court directions.
A division bench of judge Mohammad Rafiq and Justice BR Sarangi has directed Advocate General AK Parija to file a report with details of all unsettled criminal cases against former and current MPs and MLAs lying in Courts across the state. The Registrar General is to put on record the infrastructure in place for the efficient disposal of those cases.
The apex court last week passed a slew of directions to the chief justices of each high court so as to make sure efficient disposal of unfinished criminal cases against the sitting/former Legislators (MPs and MLAs). The directives enclosed recommendation to the chief justices to in-person administer such cases.
