M.P High Court Suggests Authorities to Prevent Political Gatherings Amid COVID

The M.P High Court (Gwalior Bench) comprsing Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Rajeev Kumar Shrivastava on Friday acknowledged the increase in number of COVID cases and deaths while examining the statistics of the increasing number of persons found to have tested COVID-19 positive.

The Division Bench was hearing a plea seeking directions for respondent authorities to take action to restrain the gatherings organized by the political parties in the State. The court observed that if the Executive Authorities do not prevent the such gatherings which are violative of restrictions laid down by the Central Government, State Government and the District Magistrate then the Court might have to intervene.

As an interim measure, the Court has directed that “till next date of hearing Political Functionaries and the Functionaries of the State shall strictly abide by the “Covid-19 protocol” prescribed by the Central Govt., State Govt. and the District Magistrate of the concerned District from time to time for regulating the congregation of any nature.”
