The Delhi high court has discharged the petition stating to direct Delhi police and SDMC to take action against illegally operating hookah bars. The plea asked for closure and sealing of these bars. The court ascertained that such petitioners are “champions of blackmailing.”
A division of justice D.N. Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan, whereas hearing the matter through video conference, stated: “This time we are allowing the withdrawal, however, a message has got to go.”
The counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that there’s a mushrooming of hookah bars in south Delhi and there was a blatant violation of laws.
The bench has allowed the unconditional withdrawal of the petition and noted: “We were of the opinion to impose a significant cost on the petitioner, however, aren’t doing this because it is the time of the pandemic.”
