
A Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice SA Bobde, Justices AS Bopanna, V. Ramasubramanian has allowed Public Utility Vehicles which are BS-IV complaint purchased before 31st March, to be registered, subject to strict inspection by Environment Pollution Control Authority.
The court directed that the registration of CNG vehicles, BS-IV compliant vehicles and BS-VI compliant vehicles shall be allowed as the emission from these vehicles are within limits of the prescibed norms. In this regard, the court has directed the EPCA to inspect the pending cases with proper scrutiny and submit a report so that a common order could be passed.
The court has allowed the registration of these vehicles for being used for essential public utility services. The court directed that vehicles purchased upto 31.03.2020 which are BS-IV compliant, must have been registered with the EVahan Portal before the cut-off date to establish the date of purchase. Those purchased on or before 31.03.2020 for carrying out essential public services shall be registered, but shall be subject to scrutiny by the Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA).
