Professors of Delhi University files for Direction by High Court to pay pending salaries

Eight professors of Delhi University approaches the Delhi High Court, in their capacity as members of the Delhi University Teachers Association. The advocates, Ashok Agarwal and Kumar Utkarsh filed the plea on their behalf and earlier, had been writing to the Delhi government to release the funds to enable the 12 DU colleges, funded by the AAP government, to pay due salaries to 1500 teachers and other staff working there.

The plea consisted of employees of these colleges are facing mental agony and harassment. The plea also read as “The impugned actions are bad in law as much as the same is violative of right to life as well as right to livelihood as guaranteed under Article 21 of Constitution of India,”. It also demanded the direction by the High court to make the authorities pay the pending salaries of the petitioners from May to till date and to assure timely payment of future salaries.

The list of colleges includes the following: Acharya Narendra Dev College, Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences, Bhagini Nivedita College, DeenDayal Upadhyaya College, Aditi Mahavidyalaya Women’s College, Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education & Sports Sciences, Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Maharaja Agrasen College (DU), Maharshi Valmiki College of Education, Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies.
