
In the wake of the pandemic, the Finance Ministry had announced a set of economic schemes under the AatmaNirbhar package in the month of May. One of these was a 3 Crore lakh-crore package to boost the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
The end of july saw a plea being filed in the Delhi High Court to amend the criteria under the scheme and to make it inclusive of lawyers too.
Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman has recently announced the relaxation to the eligibility criteria to benefit from the Rupees 3 Lakh Crore Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme. Finance Secretary, Debashish Panda has stated that this shall imply the inclusion of doctors, lawyers. This shall help broaden the range of professionals covered under the scheme and allows a larger number of them to apply for loans for professional purposes.
However, the technicalities of the same remain unclear to the public, as a large number of them have raised queries on its applicability on practising lawyers.
