Crane Accident in Hindustan Shipyard, Visakhapatnam kills Eleven

On Saturday, around eleven people died in the Hindustan Shipyard Limited at Visakhapatnam when a crane collapsed and fell on the workers working at the site. All of them were employees at HSL. The investigation of the case is being done by the Malkapuram Police and a relevant case will be booked after the findings have been made.

Rajeev Kumar Meena, Commissioner of Police stated that ‘’the crane was a newly erected one and was undergoing trial runs when it collapsed and fell on the workers around 11am.’’ Eleven casualties have been recorded and one was found seriously injured and has been taken to the hospital where he is under treatment.

The Tourism Minister, M. Srinivasa Rao has said that he would talk about the issue with the Chief Minister, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and will ensure that the families of the deceased people get adequate financial help and compensation. During the day just after the incident, the families of the workers and employees reached the HSL gate and complained that neither the management nor the police were giving the required information about who is alive and who is dead. The situation became a havoc by people lamenting after the loss of their family members.

Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) is the oldest shipyard in India and was founded by Walchand Hirachand in 1941 under Scindia Steamship Navigation Company. Later in 1961, it was nationalized and renamed as HSL.
