On july 23rd The Ministry of Defence has issued a formal sanction letter to grant the permanent commission to women in the Indian Army.
Army spokesperson said that the order specifies grant of Permanent Commission to Short Service Commissioned (SSC) women officers in all the ten streams of the Indian Army including Advocate General (JAG) and Army Educational Corps (AEC), an Indian Army. and he added that Their selection board will be scheduled as soon as all affected SSC women officers exercise their option and complete requisite documentation
Earlier, the women officers were commissioned in Indian Army for short period of time. Last year in November, the Supreme Court had directed the Indian Army to take a decision on permanent commission of women officers in a case of 8 women officer who had approached the Supreme Court in 2010, against the bar on their tenure in the armed forces.
